The first 5 minutes are strange. But give it that, it’s worth the wait. They’re building a character. Then, the direction and acting is AMAZING. They’ve developed the chemistry so well! Sharp dialogues, subtle things, LOVED IT! Then the intermission comes and it goes downhill. It’s as if someone else directed the whole “previous incarnation” sequence. So disjointed and seemingly random... till I read that the Censor Board took strong objections to quite a bit of the movie and told them to cut out love scenes and abuses. The movie is about 2.5 hrs long. Usually Indian movies go up to 3hrs. It feels like they cut off 1/2 hour worth of the latter half of the movie, just to meet the Censor Board criteria to get a UA rating instead of “Adult” rating. If that’s what happened, such a mistake. They weren’t able to build characters or chemistry in the second story. There they lost my interest.
Having said that... I’ve seen the first half multiple times, and will probably see it many more times, still. It’s THAT good.
I wish they’d release the deleted scenes, so we could figure out what got the two to fall in love in their previous incarnations. I’d buy a DVD for that.
